ABSTRACT. The present paper provides a brief survey of the collections from the Scandinavian countries stored at the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The artifacts from these collections were either presented to the museum or purchased. They originate from Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Estonia. One of the core collections consists of wooden runic calendars from the 16–17th centuries. There are eight such calendars. The collection from Iceland contains four pieces of late medieval and early modern clothing from the 16th and 17th centuries and a part of an old Icelandic bed. Norway is represented by a number of painted wooden objects, clothes and interior decoration items. A small collection from Sweden contains traditional ornaments made of women hair and gemstones, which were popular in the 19th century. A substantial number of Swedish peasants and fishers lived in Finland and Estonia from the 13—14th up to the 19th century. In the Museum’s collections from the 19th and early 20th centuries one can find many objects representing the traditional life of Swedish people in these countries. Altogether, the Museum posseses fifteen collections from Scandinavia. Despite this not being much, these collections contribute to a better understanding of Scandinavian cultures.
