ABSTRACT. The turn of the twentieth-twenty first centuries was marked by an increase in the publication activities of African writers, publicists and bloggers and, as a result, the development of the postcolonial narrative. Many celebrities (for example, Teju Cole and Binyavanga Wainaina) proved to be within its framework, having embarked on the path of creating a number of meta- and mega-genres including travelogues (books and films). Travels to Africa have attracted attention for centuries. The development of the colonial discourse and many stereotypes regarding the continent were based on them. Africans have set themselves the task of debunking these stereotypes, they showed the readers “places of memory”, which are not related to the colonial history. Africa was presented mainly through a personal story. This is why the travelogues are egocentric. In the context of globalization, mediatization, and digitalization their authors managed to solve the task of fighting the stereotypes, especially since the attractiveness of Africa as a destination of tourist pilgrimage has grown significantly. In this article, the author considers travelogues written by Africans as a new biased phenomenon in African literature and journalism. Its popularity and engagement is associated with the development of domestic and international tourism and the travel genre itself, which has overcome the boundaries of verbal and visual space, reaching new frontiers.
