ABSTRACT. The author’s studies of traditional systems for organizing mobility prompted the question of what are the ways (and systems) of mobilization, by which we understand the transition from sedentary settling to mobility as a basic context of social practices and communications. In this article, I consider the mobilization process as exemplified by a ritual journey in which I was involved during my trip to the Veps of the Leningrad Region in 2006. The systems of reproduction of territorial markers and the practice of updating the collective (local and family-related) memory are also discussed in the article within the framework of this type of mobility.
