ABSTRACT. In 2020, Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera) of the RAS faced new challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The museum appeared to be prepared for going online and passed the quarantine period productively. However, the staff of the Kunstkamera were looking forward to lifting the restrictions and resuming work as usual. On 14 July 2020, for the first time since March 2020, the museum opened its doors for visitors, though with certain restrictions. The latter half of the year was full of significant events in the academic and museum life, many of them garnering media coverage, including that on the federal level. One of the major events was the creation of the Alliance of Early Universal Museums. The other included but were not limited to opening of temporary exhibitions, receiving academic awards, participating in conferences and round tables, and resumption of fieldwork. Combining online and offline modes has become a significant feature of the Covid era.
