ABSTRACT. The article presents new permanent exhibition of the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography of the Russian Academy of Sciences “Peter’s Kunstkamera, or the Tower of Knowledge” (under the leadership of Prof. Andrei Golovnev). The opening on June 9, 2022 of the new permanent exhibitions “Peter’s Kunstkamera. 18th century” and “Academic expeditions and round-the-world trips” is an expression of gratitude to the great monarch and enlightener of Russia Peter the Great, by whose will the Kunstkamera (1714), and ten years later the Academy of Sciences (1724) were created. The renovation of the oldest museum does not imply the destruction of the image that has developed over three centuries, but the revival of the innovative Peter's spirit embodied in the temple of science. The main characters of the permanent exhibition are the outstanding figures of the nascent Russian science, starting with Peter the Great and his associates R. Areskin, J. V. Bruce and I. D. Schumacher. The new exhibition reflects the wide range of research conducted by the Kunstkamera and the Academy of Sciences and the richness of its collections, including the famous anatomical collection of the Dutch anatomist F. Ruysch and amazing exhibits assembled by participants of academic expeditions and circumnavigations of the 18th — early 19th centuries. The creators of the permanent exhibition share their ideas, doubts and solutions in the article.
