ABSTRACT. EthnoExpedition-2022 conducted field research among the Nenets and Khanty in May 2022 in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Salekhard). Materials were collected on modern ethnic projects of the indigenous peoples of Yamal, the practices of preserving the language, ethno-tourism, ethno-brands and souveniring of ethnicity. Cyber-ethnicity and self-presentation of peoples on the Web became a separate topic of the field work; special meetings were held with popular ethnic bloggers of Yamal. The research was carried out in line with the “new ethnography”, which involves an interactive dialogue between scholars and those under study, the synthesis of fundamental and applied research, the study of not so much yesterday's traditions as today’s ethnocultural potential, the use of the latest visualization and digitalization tools, and the development of cyberethnography. In July 2022, an expedition took place in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug (Naryan-Mar, Nelmin-Nos, Krasnoye, Ustye, Telviska). The focus of field research is on the traditions and current state of Nenets culture. The Nenets live in four subjects of the Russian Federation — the Nenets, the Yamal-Nenets and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrugs and the Taimyr Dolgan-Nenets Municipal District of the Krasnoyarsk Krai. European Nenets, or as their neighbors ironically call them “Euronenets”, make up 20 % of the population of the NAO, where there are 1 deer and 0.25 persons per 1 square kilometre (i. e. four deer per one man). Unlike the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, reindeer herders in the Nenets Autonomous Okrug have no problems with reindeer grazing, since there are enough pastures in the district and oil production is not so large-scale. Reindeer herders fully meet the needs of the district in meat products, which plays an important role in the food security of the region. The development of ethnotourism is topical for the NAO, since the ethnocultural potential of the district allows working on new brands and ethnic projects.
