ABSTRACT. The article is devoted to the study of the current revival process of the Samagaltai Buddhist monastery — khuree located in the southern part of the Republic of Tuva. The dynamic construction of Buddhist monasteries on the territory of Tuva began in the 18th century when Buddhism was recognized as the official religion. In the same period, the Samagaltai (Oyunnar) Khuree was built, which became one of the first large monasteries. It was destroyed during the period of political repression, in the 1930s. In the given article the process of reviving of the Buddhist monastery is considered in a historical retrospective. The article touches upon such issues as the history of Buddhism in Tuva, the construction of the first monasteries, their general description, destruction in the Soviet period and construction in the post-Soviet period. The authors note the great role of modern khuree including Samagaltai rebuilt in the early 1992s as centers for the accumulation and development of the Buddhist knowledge, places where local residents not only receive the blessing of the monks but also are introduced to the philosophical foundations of the Buddhist religion. In 2022, the construction of another large dugan began on the territory of the Samagaltai Khuree which is one of the important stages in the process of reviving of the large monastic complex of the 18th century, which Khuree historically was.
