ABSTRACT. The Old Castle in Grodno is a unique monument of archeology and architecture. It is a common cultural heritage of the countries that were part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (Polish: Rzeczpospolita). In the context of the results of archaeological excavations, reconstruction and restoration works, the author considers the concept and structure of the new museum complex in the buildings of the first stage of the restoration of the Old Castle in Grodno are considered (Republic of Belarus). The example of the creation of a museum complex in Grodno shows the need to comply with certain stages for successful museumification. In this process, creation of reconstructions of completely lost historical buildings and their parts is an exceptional measure. The customer of the work is the Department of Capital Construction. The entire complex of monuments is occupied by the Grodno State Historical and Archaeological Museum. A floor above the entrance tower of the late 16th century, an observation deck, a section of the defensive wall with the southwest tower, two buildings along the line of the remains of Grodno castles of 15-16th centuries were erected. The permanent exhibition was created in 2021. The main themes of the exhibition are the emergence of the of the Grodno fortress on the Neman River, the distinctive material and spiritual culture of the city of the late 11–12th centuries; the struggle against the aggression of Western European knights and the construction of the Gothic castle (the late 13th — early 15th centuries); The Livonian War; the construction of the castle (the late 16th — the 17th century). Along with the history of the growth of the administrative and political center, the exhibition reveals Eastern Slavic traditions and Western European innovations in the development of the material culture of the border town.
