ABSTRACT. The article summarizes the results of the 15th Congress of Anthropologists and Ethnologists (CAER) of Russia, which was held on June 26–30, 2023 in St. Petersburg. 803 researchers from Russia and 11 from other countries took part in the work of the Congress. The program committee approved 54 panels, 7 round tables and 1 workshop. The Congress was held in person to restore the live connection lost during the coronavirus pandemic between researchers from different regions of the large country of Russia (the previous Congress in 2021 was held online). New circumstances and challenges predetermined changes in the conceptual and organizational strategy of the CAER. The Congress did not formulate the main topic, implying that it was embedded in the very name of the Congress. The CAER opted not for a title topic, but for a range of the most relevant topics of professional interest to the community of anthropologists and ethnologists in Russia. An innovation was the introduction of an electronic system for receiving, selecting applications for organizing panels and round tables, and collecting registration fees. The most significant trends and achievements of anthropology and ethnology were presented at the plenary session in the Tauride Palace. In the repertoire of the Congress of past years there are topics of regular agenda, and there has been no decline in interest in them. There are also trends towards updating the topics, methods and sources of anthropology and ethnology. The conveners of panels shared their impressions concerning the Congress, its program and new trends in our science in their brief reviews, which are presented in the article. The Congress of Anthropologists and Ethnologists of Russia is of great importance for ensuring stability and harmony in multinational Russia, for studying and popularizing the ethnocultural heritage of all peoples inhabiting it. It is important for the academic community and the public to understand not only Russian, but also global experience of ethnocultural development, positioning of ethnicity, affirmation of human dignity, channels and forms of circulation of academic knowledge in the science-society communication network.
