ABSTRACT. The article explores the role of the legislative practices of Uzbekistan in relation to financially costly rituals recognized by society as culturally valuable and massive on the involvement of the population in the framework of economic anthropology. Such rituals are based on traditional social institutions (community, clan) and mobilize financial efforts of a significant number of participants. Excessive spending in the conditions of acute shortage of money in families leads to debtorization of the population, that is why the topic of reducing expenses has moved from the family and clan space into the national one, and for several years in Uzbekistan relevant laws have been issued, the implementation of which cannot be called successful or effective. The article analyzes the reasons for active lawmaking, formalization of laws and at the same time their positive effect, reactions of the society to them, changes in rituals and norms under the influence of the laws.
